In January 1872, the French frigate Flora anchored off Easter Island. On Board was 22-year-old midshipman Jules Vio - the future famous novelist, traveler and adventurer Pierre Loti. In his diary of those days, Loti wrote down in detail the impressions of the mysterious island, which he saw 10 years after the devastation committed by the Peruvian slave traders. The book is illustrated with drawings made by the author on Easter Island.
