This edition allows the reader to fully get acquainted with the work of the French writer Alphonse Dode. In his books, two main directions can be distinguished: one is distinguished by humor, irony and vividness of imagination; the other is characterized by the accuracy of observations, which brings Dode closer to naturalists. Although both directions are present in all Dode's books, his writings can be divided into two groups. The first group includes Provence-inspired Letters from My Mill and Tartaren of Tarascon, his most original and well-known works. The second group consists mainly of large novels, in which he does not give vent to the imagination too much, seeks to write off characters from real faces and the place of action is most often chosen by Paris.
