KEE. — Volume 5 (Ma'agan-MichaelNuremberg Laws). — Ed. "Society for the Study of Jewish Communities", Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Jerusalem, 1990. — 457 s. — Head. Red. : Yitzhak Oren (Nadel) and Dr. Naftali Prat. — Electronic Publishing . David Titievskiy . FROM THE EDITION To the reader who opens the fifth volume of the Short Jewish Encyclopedia, its editorial board recommends, in order to avoid repetition, to look into the forewords to the four preceding volumes. He will learn from it some information about the birth of KEE an undertaking that seemed to be a perfect utopia; about the stages of the incredible difficulties involved in the implementation of such a bold plan in the absence of the minimum conditions necessary for this. Still, it seems appropriate to bring here one phrase from the preface to the fourth volume: “The fourth volume of KEE comes out in a period that inspires hope that the Encyclopedia will be able to gain access to a much wider range of Russian-speaking readers in the near future”.. This hope is more and more justified: KEE is becoming one of the most important sources of knowledge about Jewry for Russian-speaking readers, wherever they live. The only encyclopedia that provides him with a systematized form of broad information about the contribution of Jews to world culture and about Jewish civilization in its entirety - from ancient times to the present day.
