When an enemy begins to threaten the southeastern borders of the kingdom, Rohyr Essendri decides to turn Tal Irek's request for help to the benefit of the cause: to strengthen the crown's presence in the region. Obeying a sudden impulse, he joins the delegation tasked with negotiating with the residents of the town. But in distant Tal Irek the memory of the soul makes itself felt, and the great Ardan Ilandra finds what he has been looking for for a long time and in vain.
