Faulkner wrote his first novel, The Soldier's Award (originally titled The Distress Signal), in New Orleans in 1925. The plot of the novel is connected with the desire of Faulkner during the First World War to become a military pilot. It is known that he entered the school of military pilots in Canada, but the war ended before his graduation from school. The novel came out in 1926. and had no success, although he was noticed by many prominent writers of America. After the Second World War, the novel was reprinted and sold in large quantities.
