English novelist Arnold Bennett (18671931) became famous mainly for serious novels. But in his work he paid tribute to the non-serious genre .. In 1911, Bennett wrote a small novel “Buried alive”, where he told the reader about how a ridiculous accident not only completely changed the life of the protagonist, but also almost shocked the centuries-old foundations of English society. The book was a great success and a year later was filmed. Much later, in 1968, it was remembered on Broadway, where a musical was created on its basis. Published in Russian for the first time.
