The House on the Shore (1969) is one of the last works of the English writer Daphne Dumorier, whose name is known throughout the world. The novel, as well as many other famous works of Dumorrier, including “Rebecca”, “Tractor Jamaica”, “Rachel’s Cousin”, unfolds against the backdrop of the fascinating landscapes of Cornwall, where most of the life of the writer passed. In an old house on the shore of the bay comes Dick Young, hoping to relax there from the bustle of London life. The mansion belongs to his longtime friend Magnus Lane, a professor of biophysics. In exchange for hospitality, Magnus asks Dick to experience the action of the “elixir” he created, which, as the professor assures, has a very unusual property to connect the past and the future. The other world in which Dick plunges is much more real than the life he has led so far.
