The Queen's Necklace, the second novel in the Doctor's Notebook series, a sequel to Giuseppe Balsamo, written by Dumas in 184950 It is also dedicated to the intrigues in France of the adventurer Count Alessandro Cagliostro, in a previous book performed under the name Giuseppe Balsamo . Dumas's story unfolds against the background of a true historical event - the theft of an extremely expensive diamond necklace, which was proposed to Queen Marie Antoinette, the wife of Louis XVI. This scam, which greatly compromised the monarchy and in which the Queen herself and prominent courtiers were involved, contemporaries called the prologue of the Great French Revolution.
