Mark Twain was an opponent of racism and slavery, and through his characters directly and unequivocally states this from the pages of the novel. The position of the author caused indignation of many of his contemporaries .. Twain himself treated this with irony. When, in 1885, the Massachusetts Public Library decided to withdraw Huckleberry Finn from its fund, Twain wrote to his publisher, "They removed Huck from the library as 'slum-only garbage,' so we're sure to sell another 25,000 copies of the book." However, at the end of the 20th century, certain words commonly used at the time of the book's creation (e.g., "nigger") came to be considered racial insults. “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn” in connection with the expansion of the boundaries of political correctness withdrawn from the program of some US schools for allegedly racist statements It first occurred in 1957 in the state of New York. The novel Yankees of Connecticut at the Court of King Arthur was first published in 1889. This is one of the first descriptions of time travel in literature, six years before H.G. Wells’ The Time Machine (1895). A typical Yankee from Connecticut in the late 19th century gets a scrap blow to the head during a fight and loses consciousness. When he wakes up, he finds himself in the era and kingdom of British King Arthur (VI in. ), a hero of many knightly novels . Enterprising Yankee immediately finds a place at the court of the king as a wizard, displacing old Merlin. Using his knowledge of science, technology and history, he begins to transform British society on the model of modern America. The Yankees are able to achieve great success before his "magic" activities cause active opposition to the church and chivalry, and they declare war on him. The story, conducted as a humorous anecdote, conveys the leitmotif of the idea of the inevitable collapse of the utopian ideas of the industrial era. The main character, at first not accepting the Middle Ages, nostalgic for the purity of the soul of people not spoiled by greed. Comments — A. and . The Elders . Comments in footnotes — C. R.
