An essay about Semyon Gluzman, a psychiatrist who, back in 1971, dared to speak out against the use of Soviet psychiatry in the fight against dissidents and was sentenced to 10 years in prison for “anti-Soviet agitation and propaganda.” Author of the works “Guide to Psychiatry for Dissidents” (co-authored with Vladimir Bukovsky) and “Fear of Freedom” written in the camp. Distinguished Member of the American Psychiatric Association and Honorary Member of the British Royal College of Psychiatrists. Written following a meeting between A. Zarifyan and S. Gluzman in Bishkek in 1998.
