The novel “North vs. South” was published in 1887 in the pages of the “Journal of Education and Entertainment” with illustrations by the artist Leon Bennett and in the same year it was published in a separate edition. The first Russian translation appeared in 1888 in the monthly annexes to the magazine "Around the World". The United States of America serves as the setting for at least ten of Jules Verne's novels.
