The story was first published in the journal "World Pathfinder" (1930, No 1-2) During the life of the author, none of his books was included, and in the postwar years it was reprinted repeatedly. The literary impetus for the work on "Hoiti-Toiti" could serve Belyaev the story of the French writer Maurice Renard "Doctor Lern" (called "New Beast" it was translated into Russian in the early twenties), in which the human brain is transplanted to the bull. However, Belyaev did not saturate a new plot collision with a new scientific and cognitive and social one.
