The features of conversational style and culture of speech are considered on the example of translated texts. The typology of colloquial and stylistically reduced vocabulary in English, Russian and French is presented in detail, as well as various approaches in transmitting its meaning into a foreign language. The description of translation as a process is illustrated by textual examples from the works of the English writer C. Maugham and their translations into Russian and French. Comparison of translations of different-structured languages is carried out in order to identify the stylistic norm .
