November 20 marks the anniversary of the death of the outstanding Soviet biologist Trofim Denisovich Lysenko. Alas, I will have to devote most of this article not to describing his legacy, but to refuting the vile slander concocted by dishonest and selfish people. During the years of “perestroika,” wild hysteria developed around the name of Lysenko, comparable to the hysteria around the names of Beria and Stalin. By now, the name of Academician. Lysenko is so spat upon and slandered that in the mass consciousness he personifies all the worst that pseudoscience can bring with it, and he himself is presented as a charlatan and obscurantist. At the same time, slanderers are not shy even about open lies and frame-ups, worthy not even of yellow newspapers, but of Goebbels’s creations. I, as a professional cell biologist, well acquainted with genetics, categorically assert that this point of view is without foundation and Lysenko, in fact, is an outstanding Soviet naturalist, which I prove in this article.
