"Crime and Punishment" is a novel by Fyodor Dostoevsky, which tells about the difficult mental situation of the main character, a young student, Rodion Raskolnikov. He kills an old criminal midwife, believing himself to be a person entitled to the act because of higher moral standards. However, this crime puts Raskolnikov in front of an internal struggle and psychological worries. In "Crime and Punishment" the author expresses complex philosophical concepts and questions about the essence of crime, repentance and salvation. He investigates the psychological aspects of human nature, the relationship between good and evil, the influence of the social environment on human behavior. Due to its deep characterization of the heroes and complex moral dilemmas, "Crime and Punishment" remains one of the most outstanding works of world literature, which interests readers of different generations due to its relevance and the depth of feelings described by the author.
