Sutra (Buddhist poem, teaching) by Gary Snyder, who was a poet, logger, ranger, sailor, worker, novice in a Buddhist monastery, who spent ten years in Japan studying Zen Buddhism. Snyder is often referred to as a member of the beat generation, which has its own reason: he was friends with Kerouac and Ginsberg, and served as the prototype for Japhy Ryder from Kerouac’s “Dharma Bums.”
