Held from 15 April to 12 November 1900. 35 countries presented their expositions in 18 thematic departments. Particularly significant was the participation of the Russian Empire, France's closest ally at that time. For seven months, the exhibition was visited by more than 50 million people, which is a record figure to this day. The exhibition brought to the French Treasury revenue of 7 million francs . The exhibition was attended by more than 76 thousand participants, the exhibition area was 1.12 km2. Especially for the exhibition, a large number of objects were built: Lyon Station, Orsay Station (now the Orsay Museum), Alexander III Bridge, the Great and Small Palaces, the Beehive squat on Montparnasse (was conceived as a temporary use wine rotunda). The first line of the Paris metro began to work during the exhibition on July 19, 1900. The Salle des Machines was later converted into the Winter Velodrome. In addition, during the exhibition worked trolleybus network .. Part of the exhibition was the Second Olympic Games, which took place for five months - from May to October. These were the first games involving women. Competitions in 13 sports out of 20 were held for the first time.
