[ ) Like the first book on "Composition", it has two objectives: on the one hand, as part of the general course of poetics, it sets itself the goal of educational - to communicate systematic information on the issues raised ; ; On the other hand, as an independent research in the field of little studied, it is delayed with special attention to those questions of history and theory of rhyme that require more in-depth and special development. The general principles underlying this development were briefly outlined by me in the book The Poetry of Alexander Blok (Pbg.). 1922; see. VII); below they are set out in more detail in the first chapter. The focus is on questions of Russian rhyme: however, these questions are of interest not in themselves, but as a more accessible example for the general doctrine of rhyme. Everywhere, whenever possible, I try to present this familiar material in a comparative-historical light.
