Lenin includes works written from August 1915 to June 1916, at the height of the imperialist war of 19141918. The central place in this volume is occupied by the work "Imperialism as the highest stage of capitalism" .. In this work, Lenin summed up the development of world capitalism in the half-century that has passed since the publication of Marx's Capital. Based on the laws of the origin, development and decline of capitalism discovered by Marx and Engels, Lenin for the first time gave an in-depth scientific analysis of the economic and political essence of imperialism. Lenin's work is a further development of the Marxist theory of capitalism, enriching it with the doctrine of its highest and final stage - imperialism. Summarizing the new phenomena in the economy of world capitalism, Lenin showed the inevitability of aggravation under imperialism of all the contradictions inherent in capitalist society. He characterizes imperialism as parasitic, decaying, dying capitalism and reveals the conditions for its destruction, the inevitability and necessity of replacing capitalism with a new, progressive social system socialism. Many of the works included in the present volume are devoted to the analysis of the First World War, to the exposure of its imperialist character. Lenin justifies and propagates the Bolshevik slogans of the defeat of his imperialist government in the war, the transformation of the imperialist war into a civil war for socialism.
