In 1910, the French Slavist E. Duchesne published an extensive work in Paris entitled “Mikhail Yuryevich Lermontov. Life and creativity.” In the preface, Duchesne explained to the French reader that he intended to introduce him to the great poet of mysterious fate, one of the most brilliant representatives of Russian romanticism, generated by the European romantic movement. He divided his work into three parts: biographical information about Lermontov, an analysis of his work and a study of the influences, “influences” of Russian and European cultures on him. In this “catalogue”, probably for the first time, an observation was made that deserves to be discussed here for more details.
