Kyiv-Mohyla Academy traces its history back to 1615. when the noblewoman Galshka Gulevicheva donated land and money for the construction of the Bratsk monastery school in Kiev When Metropolitan Petro Mohyla of Kiev (circa 159747. ) arrived in Kiev and decided to open a school at the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, the Bratsk-Monastery School appealed to the Grave not to open a new school, but to use the existing one as the basis for the future academy. The tomb agreed, and in 1632. Fraternal-monastery school served as the foundation of the future academy. Under the auspices of the Tomb, the monastery and school received additional land and financial support. The goal of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy was to master intellectual skills and modern European knowledge and apply them to Ukrainian education.
