The Bento Notebook is the last book to date by a well-known British art critic, writer and artist, dedicated to the study of how the impulse to draw is born. In form, it is a series of essays united by a common metaphor. Berger imagines a notebook of the philosopher Benedict Spinoza, or Bento (among the personal belongings of the philosopher was such a notebook, which then disappeared), and fills it with his thoughts, graphic sketches and quotes from the Ethics and the Treatise on the Improvement of the Mind.
