Cruiser "Kirov" is rightly considered one of the most famous ships of our fleet This is the first large warship built in the USSR, the flagship of the Baltic, an active participant in the war. Despite the fact that Kirov did not have the opportunity to compete with an equal enemy in naval combat, its artillery made an invaluable contribution to the defense of Tallinn and Leningrad, to the breakthrough of the German blockade, to the reflection of air attacks. "Kirov" and his followers - "Voroshilov" , "Maxim Gorky" , "The Hammers" (CM) "Kalinin" and "Kaganovich" - remained in history not only as the most modern and powerful ships of the Soviet Navy during the Great Patriotic War. but also as the founders of a whole generation of artillery cruisers , entered into service already in the post-war years and remained the basis of our fleet for two decades
