The collection includes two of the most famous publications of the prominent French philosopher Jean Baudrillard: "There was no war in the Gulf" and "Spirit of terrorism", devoted to the analysis of two global events - the 1991 Gulf War and the terrorist attack on the United States on September 11, 2001. Baudrillard took full advantage of these two reasons to appeal to the widest public and tried to turn the works offered to attention into the quintessence of the main provisions of his philosophy, clearly and easily illustrating them with all known examples. The Gulf War was famous not only for the participation of a large number of countries, but also for the broadcast of TV channels around the world in real time. However, Baudrillard argues that it is a "non-war", it is a "non-event", it is something that was not. The very raising of the question of the seemingly obvious fact that everyone saw live, caused a rather serious scandal, and brilliant arguments brought the philosopher world fame. The title of the book is now seen by many as a saying, a meme, even a kind of mantra. This work of Baudrillard formed the basis of no less cult than the “Matrix”, the Hollywood film “The tail wags the dog” .. If the Gulf War was a non-event for Baudrillard, then the September 11, 2001 terrorist attack was, on the contrary, an “absolute event” for him. The "Spirit of Terrorism", consisting of a series of articles devoted to the analysis of terrorism and the globalization that gave rise to it, is a logical continuation of "There was no Gulf War". The philosopher developed the topic of terrorism long before it became relevant for everyone. Therefore, he is the first who was able to offer the most detailed and original analysis of the problem.
