In Kursk, a city of military glory, and throughout the Kursk region, dozens of avenues, squares, and streets bear the names of heroes who have been awarded the highest honors of our homeland. Every one of these street names tells a story—of someone’s fate, of heroic deeds. Among these names are distinguished military commanders, ordinary Red Army soldiers, cosmonauts, and scientists. This booklet aims to remember these heroes by name—to recall those who, through their bravery, have forever etched themselves into the history of our nation. Their names and surnames have become an inseparable part of life in the Kursk region. The connection between generations must not be broken. We should know who Lomakin Street is named after, and understand the significance behind it. We shouldn’t pass by the monument of Katya Zelenko every day without learning who this heroic woman was. It’s wrong to drive past Perekalsky Square daily without knowing that the person it’s named after sacrificed his life to liberate Kursk. The task for future generations is to remember the deeds of those who came before us.
