Count Alexei Sergeyevich Uvarov (1828 - 1884) was a renowned Russian archaeologist. A significant portion of A.S. Uvarov's extensive archival legacy consists of materials related to the study of Christian symbolism. This work, conceived in the late 1850s following a lengthy journey through Europe by Count and Countess Uvarov, remained unfinished. In 1908, at the request of Countess P.S. Uvarova, D.V. Ainalov, E.K. Redin, and S.A. Zhebelev published the first volume of this foundational work: "The Symbolism of the Early Christian Period." In the editors' preface, they detail all the materials intended for publication that were reviewed after the author's death.
