The author summarizes many years of research on the nature of architectural creativity on the basis of the world history of architecture. The familiar, little-known and practically unknown to the intelligent reader material of architectural and construction activity in its cultural context is arranged in a book in such a way that every time the ascent from the first steps of the new in architecture to its present state is carried out. Skill, knowledge, professionalism, comprehension and doubt in meaningfulness, creativity itself and various, sometimes polar interpretations of it in architecture are subjects of in-depth consideration. The set of expanded captions to the illustrations forms a kind of concise summary of the contents of the book. Most of the illustrations are the author's own photos. With the exception of excerpts from classical translations of ancient poets, translations of poems are made by the author. The book assumes in the reader an acquaintance with the basic history of artistic culture.
