The main purpose of this publication is to acquaint a wide range of readers with the most difficult tasks associated with the creation and use of technology for obtaining weather forecasts. Bearing in mind the well-known recommendation of Kozma Prutkov, the authors did not try to embrace the immense and in a popular scientific form tried to describe the main stages of prognostic activity. from representative installation of a meteorological instrument to integration of complex systems of equations of hydrodynamics, called models of general circulation of the atmosphere. The solution of these equations, “edited” by the intelligence of the weather forecaster, is the weather forecast. The authors, when outlining the issues discussed, completely abandoned the use of mathematical apparatus and the provision of detailed information on the quantitative relationships between the phenomena described. This structure of the text makes it the most understandable and simple.
