The method and an example of calculation of the mechanism of lifting of the bridge (goat) crane of general purpose are presented. Guidelines are based on ISO 4301 /1 materials, which in the design of lifting mechanisms (elements) provide a multivariate approach . This method of design and calculation allows to optimize the design of parts and assemblies of lifting machines in terms of loads, weight, strength properties, etc. Methodical instructions were prepared at the Department of "Transport and Technological Machines and Equipment" and are intended for students of specialty 190205
