The “Long Telegram” is the established name for Telegram No. 511 from the US Embassy in Moscow, sent by George F. Kennan to Washington on February 22, 1946, in which he outlined the impossibility of cooperation with the USSR. The results of the American government and public analysis of this cable and the subsequent "X" article, also written by Kennan, led to Kennan's views becoming a determining factor in the US approach to relations with the Soviet Union and the Cold War; Kennan himself became known as the “architect of the Cold War.”
