The concept of distance is one of the main in all human activity .. In everyday life, distance usually means some degree of intimacy between two physical objects or ideas (t.) e. length, time interval, interval, rank difference, estrangement or remoteness), while the term metric is often used as a standard concept of measure or measurement. In this book, with the exception of the last two chapters, the mathematical meaning of these terms is considered, which is an abstraction of measurement. Metrics and distance have become an important research tool in a wide variety of areas of mathematics and its applications. including geometry, Probability Theory , Statistics, Coding theory, Graph theory , Cluster analysis, Data analysis, Image recognition, Network Theory , Mathematical Engineering , Computer Graphics , Machine vision , Astronomy , Cosmology, molecular biology and many other branches of science. The accumulated information about distances is so extensive and scattered that it has become almost impossible to work with it. In this regard, many researchers, in particular the authors themselves, try to accumulate and store distance data in relation to their own fields of scientific activity. With the growing need for an interdisciplinary source of public information on distances and metrics, the authors decided to expand their personal collection and create an "Encyclopedic Distance Dictionary" on its basis.
