Armada 15 - Tanks BT Part 2 - the second part of the book about high-speed tanks BT. The book tells about the next model of the tank - BT-5, which was a further development of the twnk Walter Christie produced by us as the BT-2. There were many reasons for the development of the new machine - the BT-2 turned out to be complex and non-technological in production, had insufficient patency and weak armament. The new tank received a slightly elongated body of a simpler shape, an enlarged turret of a new type with a 45 mm gun, the projectile of which had a more powerful high-explosive effect than the old 37 mm, and could also be guaranteed to hit all existing tanks in the world at that time. Since 1933, tanks began to be equipped with radio stations with a handrail antenna on the tower. In the 1930s, experiments were conducted to equip tanks with missile weapons on an external suspension - 132 mm RS shells and 250 kg "tank torpedoes" - rockets with a short range, but of great destructive power. Tanks of all-terrain capability and protection of BT-IS, devices for overcoming water obstacles were also developed, bridge-laying tanks and much more. BT-5 became a real mass machine of the Red Army and participated in hostilities in Spain, Manchuria, the Finnish and Great Patriotic War.
