This album in the works of Milo Manara is a bit detached : it is very small in volume, does not contain any text (not counting a small author's preface) and, unlike many other works of the artist, does not differ in special thoroughness of drawing. The main thing for Manara was to express a certain idea . In a small volume, Manara tried to figuratively depict neither much nor little, eh? the entire history of mankind. This album can be seen as one big picture, consisting of successive different human types on different turns of history - from primitive times to the end of the 20th century. No wonder the album is called "Bolero" - like a dance, in its expressiveness reminiscent of pantomime .. According to Manara, history is like an endless dance: centuries change centuries, costumes change, technology develops, but the two passions that drive a person remain unchanged: this is sex and violence, the rest is only scenery.
