This book presents the first part of a two-semester course in electrodynamics, which the author read for several years for students of the Faculty of Physics of Moscow University. The first part of the course was devoted to the presentation of macroscopic (phenomenological) electrodynamics, which mainly did not address the issues of the atomism of electricity (in the second part of the course, the basics of microscopic electrodynamics were considered). In preparing the lectures for publication, the author deliberately avoided additions to emphasize the amount of knowledge on this chapter of theoretical physics currently presented to physics students, regardless of their narrow specialization.
