Multon is the first book to appear in Russian on celestial mechanics. Therefore, despite some of its shortcomings, it is a valuable tool for both undergraduate and graduate students who choose astronomy as their specialty, and for all others who want to get acquainted with the basics of the science of the movement of celestial bodies in a simple and quite elementary form. Indeed, the book of Multon gives a good idea of the main problems and methods of classical celestial mechanics and does not require any special knowledge from the reader, except acquaintance with the elements of mathematical analysis and mechanics. A large number of diverse tasks will help a thoughtful reader to better understand the proposed material and can give good skills for independent work.
