On the example of the development of physics, the drama of knowledge of nature is traced. The heroes of this drama are physical ideas for which the change of basic physical representations retains the eternal significance of each stage of their development. In the course of the development of physics, concepts such as elementary particle, field, charge> undergo a significant change, gaining an increasingly generalized value. But the meaning of these concepts, corresponding to each stage of their development, is preserved as a reasonable physical approximation for a wide range of tasks and at the present stage. Analysis of the change of these concepts leads the reader to the most modern ideas about the structure of the microworld, about the nature of gravitation and about the fundamental unity of the forces of nature.
