The novel “Dog Years” is one of the central works in the work of the largest German writer of our time, the winner of the 1999 Nobel Prize Gnther Grass (p.) 1927). In the novel, the story of the dog Prince is closely intertwined with the fate of the German people during the years of fascism. Dog "makes history": on behalf of the "German population of the German city of Danzig" it is given to Hitler "Dog" motif sounds accompanied by tragically grotesque chords of senseless German death in the last days of the war. It turns out that the Fhrer bequeathed his loyalties to the dog .. Hitler and his dog seem to change places, and it turns out that the Germans shed blood and die for the dog. That's where the title of the novel: the years of the Nazi dictatorship appear as "dog years", the life of the Germans - as a dog life. This book is a large-format canvas telling about the fate of Germany and the German people in the 20th century, full of irony and sarcasm, containing numerous historical excursions and philosophical departures.
