Polycarp (AD 69 - 155) was a 2nd-century Christian bishop of Smyrna. He died a martyr, bound and burned at the stake, then stabbed when the fire failed to consume his body.Polycarp was a disciple of John tha Apostile. John had ordained him bishop of Smyrna.Polycarp died Saturday, February 23, during the proconsulship of Lucius Statius Quadratus, c. 155 or 156.
