"Little Dorrit" . Little Dorrit is the eleventh novel by English writer Charles Dickens, first published in Home Reading magazine from December 1855 to June 1857. Along with the works "Cold House" and "Hard Times" is one of the three socially significant works of the author. The novel is divided into two books: the first book "Poverty" and the second book "Wealth" The action takes place in England in the early 19th century. Dickens tells about the fate of people in their complex interweaving, simultaneously revealing the flaws of the state system that stifles everything progressive in the country. "Little Dorrit", like other novels, Dickens, according to the long tradition of English publishers, were published in parts, monthly issues, in the magazine "Home Reading". The first issue of the novel appeared in December 1855, the last in June 1857. The average print run was 30,000 copies. The first complete edition appeared in 1857. After publication, the novel was criticized by contemporaries. First of all, because of the ironic (and even sarcastic) image of modern England and the intricate plot. The book received recognition and fame much later, when such well-known literary scholars and writers as Dostoevsky, Bernard Shaw and Lionel Trilling expressed a number of positive reviews about this work.
