“The Sword and the Pen” (Azerb. Qılınc və qələm, Gylynҹ və gәlәm) is a historical novel written in 1946-1948 by Mamed Said Ordubadi in an adventure style. The novel takes place in the Middle Ages on the territory of the modern Republic of Azerbaijan. The events mainly unfold in Ganja of the 11th-12th centuries - the period of the Atabeks of Azerbaijan. The main characters of the work are the outstanding classic of Persian poetry Nizami Ganjavi, one of the greatest poets and thinkers of the Middle Ages, and his close friend Fakhraddin, a talented commander and people's defender. The character of the friends characterizes the title of the novel - “The Sword and the Pen.”
