In the 5th century. AD Armenian historiographer Movses Khorenatsi in his “History of Armenia” told an equally wise and instructive story about the ancient Armenian king Are the Beautiful, who fell from the cruel-hearted Babylonian queen Semiramis. And although over 3,000 years have passed since then, and no archaeological evidence of these events, except for oral folk memory, has been found, the myth of Ara the Beautiful and Semiramis has become one of the many “wandering stories.” The widowed Queen Shamiram sent an invitation to King Are to take her as his wife and unite the two peoples in one kingdom. However, knowing about the curse of women of the titanium family, Ara refused, which caused a bloody war in which he died. The tragic image of the young and sad king had a significant influence on Armenian literature and art and inspired many Armenian writers and artists to create a number of works. This book resurrects this ancient legend in its original form.
