The on-line publication of this important document wasoriginally accomplished in 1998 for the Trotsky Internet Archive (TIA). TIA wasordered to remove this version, which was originally published by PathfinderPress, by attorneys representing Pathfinder Press. Pathfinder Press was once aTrotskyist publishing company but has for many years operated within the normsof a commercial publishing house that jealously guards its copyrights, even tothe detriment of the distribution of the documents it seeks to control. Thisoccurred in the fall of 2000. Fortunately, the TIA was able to obtain anothertranslation of The Platform of the Joint Opposition made in1973 from Index Books, asocialist publisher in Britain that was only too happy to allow the TIA todistribute this document for free over the Internet.
