Plato's dialogues, collected in this edition, can hardly be considered completely unknown to the domestic reader. In whole or in part they were included in almost all the main collections of Plato's works in Russian translations, published in separate editions, so that the question may arise of the expediency of another appeal to well-known works. However, how well do we know the works usually included in the corpus of Plato's "early", or "socratic", dialogues? Most of the dialogues collected in this volume relate to early Plato. These are the dialogues of the fifth ("Feag", "Harmid", "Lakhet", "Lisid"), the sixth ("Gorgius" and "Protagoras") and the seventh ("Hippius the Younger", "Hippius the Greater", "Ion" and "Menexen") Frasilli tetractides . Only a few of them (most often "Gorgius" and "Hippius the Lesser") are included in the works of the transitional period.
