The basis of the publication "On the City of God" in the library "ABCs of Faith" is the text of the "modern edition"[1], which was available on several sites at once[2] in the same form - with a large number of recognition errors, a number of omissions (whole chapters!) and without specifying those who worked on digitization. We have corrected the text according to the publication of "Aletayya" . In addition, references to Scripture and to ancient writers were checked with the Kiev edition of the early 20th century (in which another translation[4] and quotations from Scripture are given in Church Slavonic) .. Differences were resolved in the Latin original (usually in favor of the Kiev edition) and noted in the notes. From the same pre-revolutionary edition, for the convenience of the reader, texts were added, preceding the book (patio) and the chapter (italics), as well as numerous omissions of the text in the publication of Aletya .. In those, quite a few cases, when the quotation from the Scripture on the synodal translation does not confirm the idea of Blessed Augustine (which was most often commented on in a peculiar way by the editor), we restored the quotations on the Church Slavonic text and removed the notes that immediately became unnecessary.
