This collection includes conversations and answers to questions from the famous Orthodox priest Father Alexander Men. The very title of the book suggests that it is devoted to one of the difficult topics that concern people in our secularized society. The text of the conversation with Fr. Alexander at the round table, which is called “Why is it difficult for us to believe in God?” Even during his lifetime Fr. Alexander, this conversation was formatted in the form of a samizdat typewritten text, to which Fr. Alexander wrote a short foreword. As a preacher and apologist for Christianity, Fr. Alexander attached great importance to the question posed and constantly addressed the psychological, cultural, social and historical reasons that prevent a person from meeting God. “Everyone believes subconsciously,” he said. — Subconsciously, each of us feels that there is the deepest meaning of existence. Our existence and the existence of the world has a direct connection with this meaning. A reasonable believer is one who brings this feeling to the level of consciousness.” In his books, lectures, and conversations, he sought to remove all barriers as much as possible, so that a pure, unclouded source would open in a person, in which the Divine would be reflected, and so that he could find the presence of the “highest spiritual Reality” in his life. The collection also contains conversations about. Alexandra about the foundations of the Christian faith, about man’s involvement in the spiritual world, about the mystery of the Incarnation of the Son of God and a short interview about belief in miracles. The collection ends with a selection of answers to questions about the nature of evil, about creativity, about faith and reason, about various forms of involvement in spiritual life, about the connection between religion and culture, and about many other things that concern our contemporary, who is looking for a different plane of existence. The book is intended for everyone interested in issues of faith and life in the Church.
